Robert Lewandowski: Polish striker is preparing for a transfer to MLS team Chicago Fire
Robert Lewandowski is close to joining MLS side Chicago Fire after completing his contract with Barcelona. The forward, 37, is expected to sign a two-year contract in Chicago.

Former Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski is on the cusp of joining Major League Soccer's Chicago Fire. The 37-year-old Polish striker left the La Liga club at the end of the season when his contract expired and is expected to sign a two-year deal with Chicago. Last December, Fire reported talks with Lewandowski over a possible move. He is on their “discovery list,” meaning no other MLS club can sign him without paying a fee to the team. Negotiations between the parties are ongoing. In addition to the Fire, the likes of AC Milan and teams from the Saudi Pro League have shown interest in the striker, but Lewandowski is expected to be among the highest-paid players in MLS. His arrival will be a big boost for Chicago Fire, which has one of the largest Polish communities outside of Poland. The Fire currently sit third in the MLS Eastern Conference and will return to action after the World Cup break on Friday, July 17 when they face Vancouver. Lewandowski spent 12 seasons in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, winning 10 league titles and leading Bayern to the 2020 Champions League title. He was considered the favorite to win the 2020 Ballon d'Or, but the award was not awarded this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Lewandowski finished second in Ballon d'Or voting in 2021 and has won the FIFA Best Player award twice in 2020 and 2021. After moving to Barcelona in 2022, he helped the team win three La Liga titles and the 2025 Copa del Rey, scoring 120 goals in 193 appearances. However, a series of injuries over the past year have limited his appearances and he only played in 17 La Liga matches last season. Since his departure, Barcelona have signed Newcastle striker Anthony Gordon on a five-year deal worth more than €80 million, while the club await a decision on Marcus Rashford, who spent last season on loan at Manchester United. Reports emerged on Monday that they are also interested in a move for England striker Harry Kane, who is in the final year of his contract at Bayer Leverkusen.
