After more than 20 years since their last match at Highbury Stadium, Arsenal took to the same-named pitch again, this time in the League Cup. Fleetwood Town's preparation for the match resembled a real celebration: fireworks were lit in the stadium, creating an atmosphere of excitement. However, that enthusiasm was soon cut short when a drone appeared on the pitch, forcing referee Michael Salisbury to stop play.

In the cold weather, players from both teams tried to keep moving to stay warm while organizers looked for a solution to the problem. Six minutes later the referee continued the match and the Fleetwood Town players, determined to win, began to take action. As part of Arsenal, coach Mikel Arteta gave 18-year-old striker Sidach O'Neill, who already has experience playing for the Northern Ireland national team, a chance to make his debut.

Despite having the likes of Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres in the starting line-up, Arsenal failed to show their full potential in the opening minutes of the match. Fleetwood Town, playing aggressive and direct football, opened the scoring in the 30th minute when striker Aaron Lupalo-B got the better of a defender and fired into the right corner of the Arsenal goal. Having scored the goal, the host team focused on defending, allowing Arsenal to control the ball without posing any real threat to the goal.

In the second half, Arteta introduced Martin Odegaard and Ben White, which led to more active Arsenal play. Odegaard became a link in the center of the field, which allowed the team to create several dangerous chances. In the 60th minute, O'Neill, having received the ball on the left flank, accurately crossed into the penalty area, and Gyokeres was able to equalize the score by sending the ball into the goal.

After this, Arsenal finally took the initiative into their own hands, but despite the pressure, they were unable to convert their chances, including two great chances missed by Havertz. As a result, the match ended in a 1:1 draw, and the fate of the meeting was to be decided in a penalty shootout. In a tense battle, Fleetwood Town goalkeeper Jay Lynch made a brilliant save to save Bruno Guimarães' shot, helping his side to a historic 5-3 win on penalties.

This defeat was a real sensation and the first major failure for Arsenal in the League Cup, when a team from the fourth division knocked out the defending champions. For Fleetwood Town, this achievement was an important milestone in the history of the club, which made it to the quarter-finals of the League Cup for the first time. The triumph at Highbury was a real celebration for their fans, who could not contain their emotions in the stands, celebrating their team's historic victory.
