Inter slows down in search of Udinese defender Colet
Inter Milan are reconsidering their plans to sign Udinese defender Umar Colet due to concerns over his price and fitness, while the club are also looking for other defenders this summer.
Inter Milan were previously actively interested in Udinese defender Umar Solet, who is also being targeted by Como and Atletico Madrid. However, the Nerazzurri seem to have started to cool down on the deal.
On Tuesday, Inter said goodbye to four players whose contracts expired at the end of June, including three defenders: Francesco Acerbi, Stefan De Vrij and Matteo Darmian. 37-year-old goalkeeper Yann Sommer was also released. For this reason, and as confirmed by Nerazzurri sporting director Piero Ausilio, Inter are targeting the signing of at least two defenders this summer transfer window.
Ausilio also confirmed that Colet is a potential candidate, but recent reports indicate that talks between Inter and Udinese have stalled. At an event in Rimini this week, Ausilio said: "Solet, like many other players, could be an opportunity, but he is not the only one. Besides, I am not at all sure that he is the right one for us. Let's calmly wait to see what the transfer market brings, but we are in no hurry and can start pre-season with the squad we have. However, we intend to sign two new defenders."
Colet, 26, is entering the final year of his contract at Udinese and Inter were prepared to offer around €20 million to bring him to the San Siro this summer. However, according to Calciomercato.com, Udinese is insisting on €30 million, which the Nerazzurri consider excessive for a defender who will be available on a free transfer in less than a year.
Additionally, Il Messaggero reports that Inter have doubts over Colet's fitness, with concerns about a possible chronic cartilage problem in his knee which could limit his impact and time on the pitch at San Siro.
Meanwhile, the latest updates claim that Comeau is also interested in a potential deal for Colet this summer. In addition, both Como and Inter are also interested in signing Chelsea and England centre-back Trevo Chalobah, who is, however, valued at €40 million.
