New art featuring portraits of Amsterdam icons unveiled at Johan Cruijff Arena

New art was unveiled at the main entrance to the Johan Cruijff Arena on Thursday. Two artists have immortalized portraits of various Amsterdam icons around the Ajax stadium. Among those depicted are Johan Cruyff, Sjaak Swart, Marco van Basten and Louis van Gaal. This art was created in honor of the 750th anniversary of Amsterdam and was unveiled by the mayor of the city, Femke Halsema. Arena donated the work to Amsterdam. Residents of the capital chose through voting which personalities would be depicted. In addition to those already mentioned, the arts include Jari Litmanen, Piet Keizer, Frank Rijkaard, Daphne Coster and Siem de Jong, as well as icons from outside the football world such as singer Andre Hazes, former mayor Eberhard van der Laan and 3x3 basketball player Worthy de Jong. Most of the icons of Ajax can be found on the west side.
