Reunion of Wout Weghorst with FC Twente

Two years ago, Weghorst's move to FC Twente did not materialize and both sides were unhappy with the situation. The club from Enschede felt that Weghorst delayed the decision for too long, while the striker dreamed of a different career - he chose Ajax. Weghorst was outraged by the reaction of FC Twente, in particular by then technical director Arnold Bruginck, who he believed blamed him for disrupting the transition, which led to negative attitudes from the club's fans.

The financial terms offered by Burnley FC were too high for the Eridivisie club. However, not everyone at FC Twente was unhappy with Weghorst's selection, as there were concerns in the dressing room that his eccentric character could undermine team unity. “It’s not for nothing that Wout was my captain at AZ,” added van den Brom.
