Anton Stakh became the hero of the match, scoring the decisive goal, which emphasizes his importance for the team. His set-piece prowess could be a key factor in Leeds' future Premier League performances, especially given the importance of such moments in tight matches.

Why is this important

Leeds' victory in their first Premier League match is important for the confidence of the team and its coach Daniel Farke. Not only is this result worth three points, but it also demonstrates the team's ability to handle pressure at key moments, which could have a positive impact on their season journey.

Key takeaways

• Farke demands stability from Leeds after encouraging performance
• Leeds United began their journey in the Premier League with a victory over Nottingham Forest, thanks to Anton Stach's late goal.
• Farke keeps Leeds grounded despite a promising Premier League start.

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke is demanding consistency from his side after their 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the Premier League's opening matchday. Leeds opened their season in dramatic style with a decisive goal in the 88th minute from Anton Stach. This goal was a real masterpiece: Stach took a free kick that went through the hands of goalkeeper Mats Sels and brought three points for Leeds on the road.

Despite the victory, Farke noted that the team was far from perfect and they were lucky to avoid conceding goals at some points in the game. "It's still a long way to go," Farke told Sky Sports. "We need to get 40 points, we're not naive. The last time this club was able to have two consistent seasons at this level, you'll probably only find it in black and white photographs. But I'm very happy with the result, especially to win on such a difficult pitch in a tight game. A clean sheet is important too. It was a game with different spells; we started strong, both teams putting pressure on each other. But we won because we defended well. It could have gone the other way, but I'm glad we did translate our pre-season form into the season."

Leeds have won five of their last eight Premier League matches (D2 L1) and only Arsenal (18 points) have collected more points than Leeds (17) since the start of April.Farke also praised Stach, noting the importance of set-pieces: "We talk so much about set-pieces, but they have always been important. We wanted players to be able to serve well. Anton may not be as beautiful as Juninho, but he is very effective." Stach has now scored five long-range goals, the most by any Premier League player since the start of last season, and he also leads the team in direct free kicks with four goals.

Meanwhile, Oliver Glasner began his tenure as Nottingham Forest manager with a defeat, adding to the team's poor record in the opening matches of the season. Forest have lost six of their last eight opening matches of the season (L1 D1) and have won just one of their last 12 home league games (D7 L4). Glasner said: "Everyone gave their best effort, the players worked very hard and wanted to win. We are learning from this loss. We are at the beginning of our journey and we are not burying our heads in the sand. It's unfortunate that we lost, but I saw a lot of encouraging things today. This is the path we decided to take and we will continue to go down it."

What happens next

Leeds United will now focus on the next match as they look to continue their successful run and improve their consistency in the game. Farke stresses the need to secure 40 points to secure Premier League safety and the team will work to improve their results in the upcoming matches.
