Liverpool have lost Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian king, 34, has reached an agreement to end his £400,000-a-week contract early. Salah leaves as a Liverpool legend, but his final season at the club was slightly marred by conflict with the club's management, including Arne Slot.
Now Salah is free to choose his next direction, and there are many willing ones. Among European clubs, Serie A teams such as Roma and Juventus are showing interest, but Italian clubs will find it difficult to match Salah's salary demands. Galatasaray, Fenerbahce and Besiktas are also mentioned. However, Saudi Arabia always seemed like the most likely option. Al Ittihad made a £150 million bid for the left winger back in 2023 and interest has not subsided. Al Ahly could also make a generous offer this summer to bring Salah into the Saudi Pro League.
Fabrizio Romano also confirmed that Salah is an important target for MLS clubs. After spending the summer in North America ahead of the 2026 World Cup, Salah could return to the US to finalize a deal with American clubs.Sporting Kansas City has become the latest name on the list of suitors for the wide forward, and there is also interest from San Diego FC due to their Egyptian ownership. Romano says Salah now has two big options in Saudi Arabia and the United States, and a surprise move to MLS cannot now be ruled out. “As for Mohamed Salah, don’t underestimate MLS,” Romano tells his audience. "Nobody was talking about Salah in MLS until a few weeks ago. And I told you that Salah certainly has two options. One is a move to MLS, the other is to Saudi Arabia. So, there is a specific interest from MLS in Mohamed Salah. There is a serious opportunity to see the Egyptian king after leaving Liverpool on a free transfer to MLS. So keep an eye on this situation."
Salah will make huge money in Saudi Arabia, but his next move is likely to be determined by more than just financial considerations. “As for Saudi Arabia, of course they are offering a serious package,” says Romano. "The interest in Mohamed Salah from Saudi Arabia can be considered historic. They started trying and negotiating for Salah a long time ago. Liverpool never wanted to let him go. Now Mohamed Salah will evaluate all options together with his agent Rami Abbas and decide what is best for his future.
Thus, Salah's future remains uncertain, but his departure from Liverpool opens up new horizons for his career.Time will tell where exactly the Egyptian striker will head - to Saudi Arabia or to MLS.
What happens next
Salah is now free to choose a new club and his interest in offers from Saudi Arabia and MLS will be closely monitored. It is expected that clubs such as Al-Ittihad and Al-Ahly may make generous offers, and American clubs such as Sports Kansas City will be keen to get him on board.
