Albert Riera criticized Eintracht Frankfurt

After three and a half months at Eintracht Frankfurt, Albert Riera said it was "the wrong environment for him." In an interview with the Slovenian TV channel Sportklub, he noted: “We were simply not meant for each other. I was in the wrong place at the wrong time.” While Riera praised his collaboration with sporting director Markus Körsche, he also criticized the club and team.

When discussing his next project, he stated that he would not take any player from Eintracht, as there were more suitable candidates at his former Slovenian club NK Celje. Riera, who came to the club with great ambitions, ultimately failed to lead the team even to European competitions, finishing the season in eighth place. On the last day of play, the team missed out on a key seventh place finish, drawing 2:2 with VfB Stuttgart.

After 14 matches, of which only four were won, his work was completed. Riera also faced criticism for some of his decisions, including benching Mario Gotze ahead of his contract extension. He noted that the club focuses on names rather than results, and added that the process of forming the team was not clear to him.

"The club's policy is that the coach has no influence on scouting and team composition," Riera said. After initially regretting leaving the club, in this interview he already expressed criticism and reproaches, saying that he already knew that his contract was short-lived: “It was not the right environment for me and I knew that we could not work together in the long term.”
