Former Uruguay player Forlán supported Araujo in raising the issue of mental health
Diego Forlán supported Ronald Araujo in his revelation about mental health, noting the importance of this issue in football.
Former Uruguay striker Diego Forlán expressed his support for national team defender and Barcelona player Ronald Araujo, who raised the important topic of mental health in football. Araujo missed a number of matches in the 2025/2026 season due to depression after being sent off in the UEFA Champions League game against Chelsea (0:3).
“Given that Araujo is a benchmark in world football and plays for such a great team as Barcelona, the fact that he voiced his desire to take care of his mental health is very valuable. Araujo opened up and shared his experiences, which is extremely important. We see him on the field, but we don’t know what he goes through in life,” Forlán said in an interview with Mundo Deportivo.
At the moment, Araujo is with the Uruguay national team for the 2026 World Cup and continues to recover from a microtear in the calf muscle. Uruguay will face Spain in the last match of the group stage of the tournament.
