Søren Tengstedt, as one of Telstar's key players, will be important in the upcoming matches. His contribution to the attack could be decisive for a team that has difficulty converting chances and creating scoring situations.
Why is this important
Telstar faces a serious problem, having not won nine matches in a row in the Eredivisie. This puts the team at risk of relegation, as both coach Henk Brugge and goalkeeper Ronald Koeman Jr. emphasize. The situation requires immediate action to improve results and save the season.
Key takeaways
- Telstar fails to win nine matches in a row.
- Telstar suffered its ninth defeat in a row, losing with a score of 2:3 to Go Ahed Igels.
- Telstar wint negen duels op rij niet: 'Moeten nu wel punten gaan pakken'.
Telstar started the season quite successfully with an away win over NEC, but the team is currently unable to win nine matches in a row. In the last match against Go Ahed Igels Telstar lost with a score of 2:3. Coach Henk Brugge remained positive after the match despite the result, as did his charge, goalkeeper Ronald Koeman Jr. Both understand that the team needs to improve its results to avoid serious problems in the future.
On Friday evening, Telstar could not cope with Go Ahed Igels, who showed better play throughout the match. Brugge said: "We deservedly lost. The opponents were very effective in taking their chances, and in the final part of the match we were not able to create enough opportunities to score three goals." He added that Go Ahed adopted a more compact style of play, which made it difficult for Telstar to create attacking chances. “When you play against leaders like Feyenoord, there is more space on the pitch than against a team like Go Ahed,” Brugge said.
The coach understands that in the current situation Telstar needs to start gaining points. "It will be a real fight for survival. Each game is a different story. We need to analyze this match and prepare for the next one - against Almere City in the cup and then face FC Utrecht. We cannot afford to grieve this defeat for too long," he said.
Ronald Koeman Jr. also shares the coach's opinion. "Now we need to earn points. I believe we can do it, but changes need to happen as soon as possible," he said. He also expressed bewilderment at how Go Ahed's striker, Søren Tengstedt, was able to get into space twice and score goals. "I already said before the match that he can finish attacks quickly. It's strange that he was so free. He’s Go Ahed’s top scorer,” Koeman added.
Tyrone Owusu, who scored to reduce the deficit, said: “We didn't show enough to win or draw. We conceded some stupid goals and created too few chances ourselves. We had the lead in the first half and we had to keep it up. We needed to attack more and shoot on goal, knowing that the opposition goalkeeper was not entirely confident." Owusu remains optimistic: "We will have a new opportunity next week and we will fight for the win."
What happens next
In the coming days, Telstar will be preparing for important matches, including a meeting with Almere City in the cup and a match against FC Utrecht in the Eredivisie. The team must analyze its mistakes and find ways to improve its game in order to start earning points and avoid relegation.
