Context

Phil Foden, a product of Manchester City, has extensive experience of performing at a high level, including triumphs in the Premier League and international tournaments. His return to form could be an important factor in the club's success in the coming years. Given his potential and the support of his new manager, Foden has the potential to once again become a key player for Manchester City.

Why is this important

Phil Foden's contract extension until 2030 demonstrates Manchester City's confidence in his potential. After difficult seasons where he hasn't played his best, the support of new coach Enzo Maresca could be key to his return to his former heights. Foden's success matters not only to him, but to the entire team, as his form could have a significant impact on the club's results in the Premier League.

Manchester City this week officially announced a contract extension for Phil Foden, who will now be committed to the club until the summer of 2030. The decision underlines the club's confidence that Foden can return to his previous brilliant form after two difficult seasons. New City manager Enzo Maresca is keen to help Foden through this process and if he succeeds, it will greatly strengthen the team.

Yesterday, in his first press conference as Manchester City manager, Maresca said his goal was to get Foden back to his best form. He emphasized that this was his duty. Speaking about Foden, Maresca said: "I just want to help Phil become the Phil we all want to see. First of all, so he can enjoy the game, and secondly, I know how good he is. When Phil is fit and in the mood, he can decide the outcome of matches."

Foden was superb in City's treble-winning season and he won the Player of the Year award the following season. However, in the last two years he has experienced some difficulties. "I told him it was my responsibility to help him. He's from our club, he's our guy. He's a City fan."

The key question for Manchester City in the 2026-27 season will be what form Phil Foden will be in. Will he return to the level he performed in the 2023-24 season? We hope that this will happen after the summer holidays. Or will Foden continue to be the inconsistent player he has been over the past two seasons? He is too talented not to be a key player for the FA Cup and League Cup winners.

Enzo Maresca is determined to help Phil Foden find his best form again. Maresca has worked with Foden before, and this gives him certain advantages in their interaction. He knows what motivates Foden and that should help him in his quest to support the English international. Maresca made his intentions clear when he said he was committed to Foden becoming an important part of the Manchester City squad. If he manages to achieve this goal, it will be a huge help for the team as Foden is an absolute game-changer and City need him to play next season and beyond.

What happens next

Enzo Maresca will focus on working individually with Foden to get him back to his best form. If Foden can regain his confidence and fitness, it will greatly strengthen Manchester City's bid for the Premier League titles. Next season will be a defining one for Foden and his progress will be closely monitored by fans and pundits alike.
