Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone said he will do everything possible to make Juan Alvarez feel important in the team after it was revealed the striker will miss the La Liga clash against Sevilla. Alvarez will not be able to take part in the game on Saturday, as he is not in the best physical shape and missed his third training session in a row on Friday.

Simeone noted that as soon as Alvarez returns to training, he will definitely do everything to make the player feel important. “I will do everything in my power to make him feel important,” the coach emphasized. When asked whether it was possible to change the situation with Alvarez, Simeone replied: “As long as you have health, everything in life can be changed.”

This week the club released two official statements confirming that they have no intention of selling Alvarez to Barcelona and that his move to Arsenal may be the only option out of the current situation. Simeone added that he understood why questions about Alvarez dominated the press conference, but stressed that the club had already given clear clarifications on the matter.

“I remain in the same position, hoping that I can help him become the important player he is for us,” said Simeone. He also mentioned that Alvarez will not play against Sevilla, who are in good form with two wins in a row.In addition, Atlético will not be able to count on another striker, Norwegian Alexander Sorlott, which puts the team in a difficult situation. Simeone added: "Sorlott's absence has hit us hard. He is very important to us. But with Alvarez, the impact is even greater. The team will collectively look for solutions to score goals and win."

Simeone also dismissed concerns that the uncertainty surrounding Alvarez could affect the team. "To be honest, no. The guys are doing very well, especially the players who have returned from the World Cup. The team played good games against Malaga and Villarreal and we are focused on playing well against Sevilla."

New defender Cristian Romero, who signed for Atlético from Tottenham for €40 million, will travel with the team to Seville, although Simeone said: “He needs time to find his best form and we won't rush him to make sure he feels ready to perform the way he should.”

What happens next

Alvarez is expected to return to training after his recovery and Simeone is determined to do everything possible to make him feel important in the team. At the same time, the club continues to defend its position regarding his future, excluding a move to Barcelona. The next La Liga matches will be critical for Atlético, especially given the absence of other strikers such as Alexandre Sorlott.
