Context

Paulo Dybala, Roma's key player, is showing his worth after a period of injury, making him an important part of the team's attacking efforts. His interaction with Donyell Malen could be the basis for Roma's continued success in Serie A, especially given their recent achievements against Fiorentina.

Why is this important

Roma's 4-0 win over Fiorentina underlines the team's current form and Serie A ambitions. The performances of Dybala and Malen suggest that Roma can become serious contenders for the top places in the league, especially given their world class. Gasperini noted that the team has become more united, which can play a key role in future matches.

Key takeaways

• Gan Piero Gasperini praised Dybala and Malen for their outstanding performances in Roma's win over Fiorentina, highlighting their world-class ability and improved team cohesion.
• Gasperini hails ‘world-class’ Malen and Dybala as ‘extraordinary’ Roma smash Fiorentina.

Gan Piero Gasperini, Roma head coach, praised the performances of Paulo Dybala and Doniell Malen after their impressive 4-0 performance against Fiorentina. In the post-match interview, he emphasized that both players are truly world class.

“They are world-class players,” Gasperini said. “Dybala has always been like that, but he had too many injuries. This guy is a real beast, despite the talk about his “silky” muscles. He could even play extra time. Last year he was unlucky, he was injured while taking a free kick and a penalty.”

The coach also noted the game of Malen, who continues to show excellent results since the end of last season. “Malen is something unusual, but it’s not an accident,” he added. “He feels appreciated and strong, he is a leader on the field and can continue to grow. What he shows is incredible, he seems to have found the right environment."

When asked about Roma's future ambitions, Gasperini replied with a smile: “You sound like a broken record. I agree that we showed a great game. When I talk about "size", you need to know your opponents well. When we understand what level other teams are playing at, we will have clearer ideas about ourselves. I am very happy about our team: this is an amazing group. We created the base a year ago and added quality. Now the group has strengthened, the newcomers fit in well, and that’s important.”

Gasperini also praised debutant Rodrigo Mora, who made a good impression before being substituted. “It was the right match for him,” the coach said. “He needs to improve in some areas, but we see talent in him. When he touches the ball, something good happens. We need to give him the opportunity to continue, he has all the characteristics.”

Manyu Koné, who had just returned from the World Cup, asked to be replaced after receiving a yellow card. “I pushed him a little,” the coach admitted. “Now there is a difference in physical fitness between those who went to America and those who did not, but he showed himself with generosity. He played a great match, he needs to train and get back into shape.”

Gasperini also praised the increase in effective playing time in Serie A. “It's great, it's fantastic. I really like it,” he said. “The audience benefits from this, they used to watch deathly boring matches where the goalkeeper touched the ball more than anyone else. These are great rules, no one is lying on the ground now.”

What happens next

Roma, under Gasperini, will be looking to maintain their form and continue their successful run in Serie A. The next matches will be important in determining their championship ambitions. If Dybala and Malen continue to show a high level of play, Roma can count on fighting for prizes.
