Benfica target Thiago Gabriel with Lecce's €20m bid

With the transfer of Mario Gila to Milan, new opportunities open up for Benfica regarding the signing of Thiago Gabriel. However, Lecce's asking price of 20 million euros became a major obstacle. According to several sources, including Sky Sport Italia, Gila has already agreed terms on a personal contract with Milan, with Lazio ready to accept an offer of €25 million including bonuses. Milan were indeed looking for a central defender and it appears that the matter has now been resolved.


Thiago Gabriel was also on Milan's shortlist, but is now back on Benfica's radar, according to Sport Mediaset. The 21-year-old defender moved from Esteille Amador to Lecce in January 2025 for €1.25 million plus add-ons. He progressed significantly at the Via del Mare stadium, making 39 appearances in Serie A and scoring two goals. Benfica are definitely interested in signing him, but the €20 million price tag set by Lecce poses a serious challenge. Although now they don't have to worry about competition from Milan for his signature. Juventus and Bournemouth have also been linked with the Portuguese defender.
