Leader of the Iranian national team: at the press conference before the World Cup no one asked me questions about football
Mehdi Taremi, Iran's captain, expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that at the press conference before the match with New Zealand, no questions were asked about football, but only about politics.
The captain and leader of the Iranian national team, Mehdi Taremi, spoke on the eve of the match of the 1st round of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup with the New Zealand national team. The game will take place on June 16 in the USA. The referee's starting whistle will sound at 4:00 Moscow time. “At the press conference, no one asked me questions about football... But tomorrow we play against a great New Zealand team. I really hope it will be a good game. As for politics, for political press conferences [journalists] need to go to other cities. We have a lot of respect for New Zealand and we want the match to be good,” ESPN quoted Taremi as saying.
